We would like to inform you that we have updated our Privacy Policy.

The updated policy will take effect immediately, in preparation for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),

We will continue to hold and use your personal data responsibly, and the update will help you to understand more clearly why we collect information, and how we use it.

This year, we have two different adult flu vaccines which have been recommended by Public Health England.

The Southgate Surgery has ordered a flu vaccine for you, to protect you against influenza.

  • This will also protect those around you, who may be more vulnerable to illness
  • Unlike a Pharmacy, we know our patients well
  • We hold your medical records, so that on the day that you attend the clinic, our Practice Nurses will be able to check that you are eligible to have the flu vaccination
  • Having your flu vaccination done at The Southgate Surgery is free of charge

If you are aged over 65 years, you will have the trivalent vaccine (aTIV).

From Friday 14 September 2018, please call us on tel 020 8440 9301 to book an appointment in our Flu Clinic (date of clinic to be confirmed).

If you are aged 18 to 64 years, have a chronic condition eg diabetes, COPD, asthma, or CHD, or are pregnant, you will have the quadrivalent vaccine (QIV).

From Monday 24 September 2018, please call us on tel 020 8440 9301 to book an appointment in our Flu Clinic (date of clinic to be confirmed)

Please let us know if you do not want a flu vaccination, so that we can offer it to somebody else.

It will support the Practice if you can make your appointments on-line.

It will take some pressure off our telephone lines,

and make it easier for other patients to contact our Practice by phone.

If you do not yet have an account but would like one, please contact the Surgery.

From 31 March 2016, patients will be able to apply for on-line access to view detailed coded information from their medical records and we hope that our clinical software will be ready to support this function in due course. This will be in addition to the current on-line services listed below:-

Booking of routine GP appointments

Requesting current repeat medication(s)

Access to information about medications / allergies

Practice Nurse Clinics

We have two Practice Nurses. You can make an appointment to see one of them without seeing a Doctor about your problem, if your condition requires it. Appointments with the Nurses can be made by the Reception staff for various times during the week.

New Patient Registrations

All newly registered patients will be asked to complete a lifestyle questionnaire and book an appointment to see a member of the Practice team for a health check, before being registered. The health check gives us the opportunity to meet you and your family, and tell you about the Practice.

Family Planning

Family Planning advice is also available from Doctors and our Practice Nurses, who will discuss contraceptive methods and advise on related problems. Cervical smears and Well Woman examinations are undertaken by appointment.

Well Person Clinic

We encourage all our patients to share the responsibility for their health, both in preventing disease and in treating existing conditions. Please feel free to discuss your general health and ask for advice on the following- smoking, diet, exercise, blood pressure and cholesterol testing.

Breast Examination

It is a good idea for all women to examine their breasts regularly for lumps. If you are not sure how to do this, your Doctor will be happy to show you. If you should notice any lumps in your breasts, please see your Doctor. Most lumps are benign but it is important to exclude anything serious.

Cervical Smear Test

Cancer of the cervix can be prevented and all female patients between the ages of 25 and 65 are advised to have a regular Smear Test. This is important because it can detect early signs of the disease, which is easily treated. We operate a ‘call and recall’ system to remind you about the Test and suggest that you have one every three years. It is best performed between periods (14 days from day 1 of your last period) and will be carried out by the Practice Nurse or a Doctor, by appointment.

Our Practice Nurse holds a Diabetic Clinic. All Diabetic patients are encouraged to attend for an annual review.

The Practice Nurse holds an Asthma Clinic. All Asthmatic patients are encouraged to attend annually for a full review.
